Simultaneous

Bohle Conference & Language Services offers simultaneous (conference) interpreting for conventions, tours, seminars, training courses, interviews and market research, as well as other groups.

Simultaneous interpreting is very demanding. An interpreter must listen, understand and process content as any listener might, recreate the content in another language and then deliver it in such a way that the listener can understand it.

The process: Our interpreters interpret spoken words from the source language into a target language while the speaker is speaking so that all those attending the event can hear the interpretation in real time. Specialised equipment is needed for this, such as headsets and an interpreting booth.

Interpreters have to prepare for each and every conference. They work with conference information and specialised word lists linked to the conference theme. To prepare these glossaries, conference documentation must be provided by the client well ahead of the event.

Consecutive

We provide consecutive, liaison and whispered (chuchotage) interpreting services without equipment for small groups, interviews and one-on-one consultations.

The process: Consecutive interpreting is when our interpreters interpret spoken messages in segments as they pass back and forth between speakers. The interpreter sits or stands beside the speaker/s, listens and then speaks after the source-language speaker has finished speaking. The interpreter also sometimes makes notes.

Liaison interpreting involves relaying what is spoken to one, between two, or among a small group of people. This can be done after a short speech, or consecutively, sentence-by-sentence, or as whispered interpreting (chuchotage). Aside from notes taken at the time, no equipment is used.

Whispered interpreting (chuchotage) is used when equipment for simultaneous interpretation is not available. One participant speaks and an interpreter simultaneously whispers into the ear of the one or maximum two people who require interpreting services.
